C&C 4 Blank Screen Fix

A lot of people are currently complaining of the launcher not working correctly or a blank screen being thrown when they try to launch Command and Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight on Windows 7 (though music is still heard). A fix I’ve come across is to change the resolution back to 800×600 in Windows. Then launch the game, change the resolution to what your monitors native settings are. Once you return to windows it should be fine to change back to your original settings. If this fails, try running the game as Administrator. Right click > Run as Administrator. We believe this is related to certain ATi cards only.

So, in an easier to read form:

  • 1. Change Windows resolution to 800×600 (Right click on Desktop, select resolution)
  • 2. Launch the game
  • 3. Go into settings, change the resolution to your monitors native resolution
  • 4. Save settings and exit the game
  • 5. Return to Windows and change your resolution back to what it was before
  • 6. Launch the game again

The game should launch fine the next time you try. Opinions so far on the game? As disappointing as the BETA. EA sure do go out of their way to impress the hard core gamers. They basically removed all base building and the game now has a core focus on creating units and attacking the enemy. Although the game can be enjoyable online, it gets old fast. IGN and Gamespot have both given the game average reviews, around 7/10 for both. Interesting to note is the user submitted scores, which are 3/10 on average. Looks like C&C fans are quite disappointed, and rightly so.

Whats your opinion on the game?

Let me start by saying if you’re a long term hardcore Command and Conquer fan, you may not be after this installment. The game play has completely changed. You are no longer required to harvest resources, build an army… Even maintain respect for your units. It’s rather focused on simplified, fast paced action. It goes entirely against the tradition of Command and Conquer games. I believe this game will be one of the biggest failures of 2010.

More coming soon.
