The Remake Game: Die Hard

Consider it a lesson learned from our previous round of The Remake Game: casting live-action for a cartoon is not kosher. So maybe only one commenter complained, but do you know how hard it was for me to pull a glorified all-star cos-play scenario out of my hat? Well, not very hard at all, no.

But from here on out, I'm sticking with the proper classics, films like 1988's Die Hard. Again, nobody's actually proposing a remake of this yet -- not so long as Bruce Willis is alive and willing to partner up with the next Mac guy. For fun's sake, though, let's try and determine just who Hollywood would cast and who we'd rather see take on terrorists at Nakatomi Plaza.

In the Hollywood version, we're probably looking at:

  • Mark Wahlberg as wise-crackin', tough-as-nails cop John McClane
  • Christoph Waltz as Hans Gruber
  • Kristen Stewart as McClane's daughter (when the producers claim that they're taking from Roderick Thorp's novel and not John McTiernan's film, this is the only change they'll make)
  • Kevin Durand as Gruber's short-tempered right-hand heavy, Karl
  • Craig Robinson as helpful police officer Sgt. Al Powell
  • Greg Kinnear as prick reporter Richard Thornburg
  • Dennis Quaid as blowhard police chief Dwayne T. Robinson
  • Bradley Cooper as the slick, smarmy Ellis
  • Pierce Brosnan as executive of interest Takagi some other name
  • Columbus Short as tech-savvy Theo
  • Aziz Ansari as oblivious limo driver Argyle
  • Matt Dillon as FBI Agent Johnson (white)
  • and Terrence Howard as FBI Agent Johnson (black)

One thing has become clear over the past few months: Milla Jovovich loves Twitter. If you aren't following the actress there, then you've missed out on lots of behind the scenes photos and info on her latest projects. Jovovich brought readers nearly daily updates during the production of the new Resident Evil movie and now it appears as though she's set to do the same on her newest film, The Three Musketeers.

The performer is making the movie with her husband/director Paul W.S. Anderson and will be tackling the role of Milady de Winter. In preparation for the title's August shooting date, Jovovich has been busy trying on the elaborate dresses her character is set to wear -- and she's posting pics of herself in those very costumes on her Twitter feed. She definitely seems excited about the period outfits, Tweeting about how she'll be a "17th century Bond girl" and gushing about how cool it will be to do crazy fights in the elegant clothes.

Anderson says of the film, "We are definitely modernizing The Three Musketeers without compromising the fun of shooting a period piece." The director promises action, romance and adventure in his updating, which will feature performances from not only Jovovich, but Christoph Waltz, Orlando Bloom, and James Corden. The film is slated to hit theaters next summer. Check out some of the photos in the gallery below.

As I wrote in a previous article, I'm not the biggest Musketeers fan, so I'll leave this one to you, reader. Can Anderson deliver an engaging tale of swashbuckling adventure or will this one just be another 3D nightmare? Check out the pics of Jovovich below.
